When you have finally been given the long-awaited benefit you have applied for, it can be really difficult to keep track of all of the changes that come into effect . The changes can be loud and it’s all anyone is talking about, or they can be more subtle, and not as noticeable.
The reason for this page is to take that burden away from you, and provide you with the most up-to-date information available.
Below you can find updates to benefits across the UK, all in one place!
Motability
From 1st July 2026, a range of changes will be coming into effect:
- Drivers under 30 will be required to have a mandatory black-box fitted. It is called ‘Drive Smart‘, and has been introduced to make driving safer.
- Motability is reducing the standard mileage allowance to 10,000 per year (30,000 miles per 3-year lease).
- Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) will have a total mileage allowance of 50,000 per 5-year lease.
- Excess mileage will be 25p per mile including standard rate VAT – miles over the allowance will be paid for at the end of your lease.
- Tyre replacements will now be limited to 6 tyres per 3-year lease, and 4 for damage.
- For EU travel, an admin fee and VE103 certificate are now required.
- VAT and will now apply for certain advance payments for vehicles, meaning average advance payments are expected to rise upwards of £400.
- Note that these changes will affect new customers to the scheme, not those with existing leases.
Access to Work
From March 2026, Access to Work changed something important. Email correspondence must now be requested as a reasonable adjustment. This can be done via:
- Phone (0800 121 7479)
- Letter
- Relay service (18001 then 0800 121 7479)
Universal Credit
From 6th April 2026, LCWRA (limited capacity for work and work-related activity) will now be paid at 2 different rates instead of 1. The lower rate will apply to most new claimants, and is set to be frozen at this rate until 2030. The higher rate will apply to people who get the LCWRA amount currently.
If you meet the new ‘severe conditions criteria‘, then you will also be eligible for the higher rate of LCWRA.
